The Multiversity #1 Blank Cover Comic
Released 8/20/2014
The Multiversity #1, written by Grant Morrison with art by Ivan Reis, is the explosive opening chapter of a nine-part epic that explores the DC Multiverse through metafiction, cosmic horror, and superhero myth. It introduces the central threat—The Gentry, a group of interdimensional entities bent on corrupting every Earth—and sets the stage for a sprawling narrative that spans alternate realities and comic book genres.
The issue begins with Nix Uotan, the last Monitor, reading a comic book that mirrors the events of the story itself—a classic Morrison meta-device. He’s pulled into a crisis on Earth-7, where the Gentry have already begun their invasion. Trapped and corrupted, Nix becomes a pawn in their plan.
Meanwhile, Superman of Earth-23 (Calvin Ellis) is summoned to the House of Heroes, a transdimensional hub where heroes from across the Multiverse gather. Among them are Captain Carrot, Thunderer, and Aquawoman, each representing different Earths. The Harbinger AI warns that the Multiverse is under siege, and the heroes must unite to stop the Gentry’s spread.
The comic itself is aware of the reader, breaking the fourth wall and suggesting that by reading the book, we may be enabling the Gentry’s influence—a chilling metafictional twist.
