Red Hood #1, written by Gretchen Felker-Martin with art by Jeffrey Spokes, launches DC’s first-ever in-continuity, mature-readers ongoing Red Hood series. Set in the sultry, crime-ridden city of New Angelique, the issue repositions Jason Todd as a noir antihero navigating betrayal, trauma, and a brutal new mystery.
Jason Todd arrives in New Angelique—DC’s Southern Gothic answer to New Orleans—fresh off a violent falling-out with Batman and haunted by the Joker’s lingering influence. He’s physically battered, emotionally raw, and carrying only his bike, his guns, and a metal briefcase full of regrets.
The city is gripped by fear: a superpowered serial killer is targeting police officers, and Jason quickly finds himself pulled into a conspiracy that’s both personal and political. His first ally is a charismatic local with hidden motives, and his first enemy may be someone he once called a friend.
Huntress (Helena Bertinelli) tracks Jason down, but their reunion is tense. She offers help; he pushes her away. Their dynamic—two black sheep of the Bat Family—adds emotional complexity and sets up a volatile partnership.
