THE MIND OF A MAN. THE MEMORY OF A MARTIAN. THE COLORS OF THOUGHTSMOKE. Deniz Camp and Javier Rodríguez launch DC’s Absolute Universe into psychedelic horror with Absolute Martian Manhunter #1! FBI agent John Jones survives a terrorist bombing—only to awaken with telepathic powers that manifest as swirling clouds of multicolored smoke around people. As he struggles to understand what he’s become, his fractured identity begins to blur: is he a man haunted by trauma, or a Martian entity bound to Earth by fate?
Jones sees alien faces in mirrors, hears languages no one else speaks, and watches his son recoil from the stranger he’s become. The explosion didn’t just change his mind—it may have opened a gateway to something far older and more terrifying. And when the Absolute Universe’s rules bend, even fire may no longer be his weakness.
Plus: a surreal hospital scene with a cigarette that shouldn’t burn, a glimpse of the Absolute Martian Mindf-cker, and a final page that rewrites what it means to be “other.” Camp’s cerebral script and Rodríguez’s kaleidoscopic visuals make this a must-read for fans of cosmic horror and identity thrillers. Welcome to “Thoughtsmoke.”
