Batman #635, written by Judd Winick with art by Doug Mahnke, launches the acclaimed Under the Hood arc and marks the shocking return of Jason Todd—the second Robin—long thought dead. When a new vigilante called the Red Hood begins targeting Gotham’s criminal underworld, Batman investigates, only to discover that this brutal enforcer knows his tactics, secrets, and weaknesses all too well.
The issue opens with a tense confrontation between Batman and Black Mask, whose empire is under siege by the Red Hood’s violent campaign. Meanwhile, Nightwing and Alfred sense something familiar in the Red Hood’s methods, and Batman begins to suspect the impossible: that Jason Todd may have returned from the grave.
The 2025 facsimile reprint, released to honor the arc’s legacy and its influence on modern Batman lore, restores the original layouts, ads, and cover art. It coincides with renewed interest in Red Hood’s evolution across comics, animation, and video games.
